2015 La Source Pinot Noir Magnum
It seems La Source at any age remains as lissome as the Van Duzer Gap winds that exhale cold forest air on these vines. There is a grace and levity in everything the wine does, from the darker fruit and oak integration typical to La Source to theleather and Angostura bitters that punctuate the 2015 bottling. Continuing the simile, those coastal gusts, pinched and intensified for miles by conifers en route to Seven Springs, are felt breaking open onto the palate, powerful and yet incredibly fine, settled as quickly as they rushed in. La Source eschews subtlety for its own sake for a much more elegant, lasting, three-dimensional drink of Pinot Noir. (November 2024)
