2018 La Source Pinot Noir

$85

Since its inaugural vintage in 2007, our La Source Pinot Noir has been our most sought-after wine. Fruit is planted to Dijon selections of the grape and is rooted in shallow, rocky soils. These viticultural details, coupled with meticulous winemaking, create the backbone for complex and age-worthy Oregon Pinot Noir. La Source beautifully illustrates what we do, as well as the why behind it all. It's no surprise that curious and adventurous Burgundy lovers flocked to our special region a few decades ago. In wines such as this one, there are always an abundance of hidden nuances to be discovered.

After six years the resplendent ruby color of La Source has barely dimmed, and neither has its inviting mixed berry and red plum character, accented by winter spice, desiccated rose petal and a touch of cacao nib. There is a forested touch no doubt related to the legion of Douglas firs just above this parcel that slip cool, Pacific Ocean air through its vines. Subtle and soft, with pillowy tannins, the wine takes a moment to open up. But once it does, the fruit is in balance, the oak is integrated, and the classic minerality of La Source hangs on through a nicely composed finish. (August 2024)
