Past and Present Summum 2 Pack

2022 Summum Chardonnay
This is why Chardonnay is meant for the volcanic, east-facing hillside of Seven Springs Vineyard. To be more exact, Summum illustrates the laser-like precision from the rockier top half of 14 rows of Chardonnay planted almost three decades ago. The wine is elegance. Ripe tree fruit, white flowers, roasted hazelnut and flint are just the entry to a cuvée of volume and delicacy, concentration and well-integrated oak in a svelte frame. It recalls the weightlessness and purity of a chiseled premier cru Meursault-Blagny. The finish hangs on, textured and long-lasting. As is the life of this wine.

2017 Summum Chardonnay
The subtlety and clarity that defined the 2017 vintage led us to eschew the use of new oak in the Summum cuvée for the very first time. Detailed and elegantly layered, the 2017 Summum Chardonnay deftly juxtaposes density and brightness in a textural wine that is well-positioned to age for two decades or more.
The select rows of Chardonnay that make up Summum exude
basal warmth and high-pitched electricity at the same moment. This 2017 is
no different, rife with notes of salted puff pastry, apple mousse, matchstick
and beeswax that expand with time in the glass. Dense, full-bodied, though
prodding in acidity and spice that balance the scales, the wine’s elegance,
much like its aromas and flavors, slowly reveals itself through all this energy.
Summum offers plenty to enjoy now and will continue to do so for some
time. (3/2024)
